The capital of Tennessee, Nashville is the state’s most populous city. Founded in 1977 it’s named for Francis Nash, who was the general of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. Nashville holds a special place in the hearts of country music fans. It is because the city is home to many of the genre’s greatest names such as Willie Nelson, Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Dolly Parton, and Thomas Rhett to name a few.

Nashville sure is a popular city, but it is a bit expensive as well. In fact, it is 7% more expensive than any other city in Tennessee. Let’s dig a little deeper and learn how much it costs to live in this city.

The Average Cost of Moving to Nashville

Nashville is not just popular for its country music, but it is just as famous for its hot chicken and nightlife. However, do not get caught up in all the glitz and glamor. Why? Well as stated above, moving there is not cheap. But don’t worry! Yes, it is the state’s most expensive city but you can still manage to live in Nashville. How? Well, it will depend on the individual cost of living. And this would include different factors such as your health, lifestyle, how you commute, and the neighborhood where you live.

What’s the Housing Cost?

The cost of moving to Nashville varies depending on the type of neighborhood you choose to stay. However, the average rent for a studio apartment is more than $1,400 a month. Whereas, the average rent of a one-bedroom apartment is close to $1,390/month. And for a two-bedroom apartment, it is $1,495/month. Do keep in mind that as more people are populating the city, both real estate and rental markets are becoming competitive.

Also, it is important for you to know that the houses which are put for sale usually sell in under 41 days. But those houses that are located in posh or famous neighbourhoods sell in just 20 days or less. Moreover, the average price per square foot is a whopping $240 for residential real estate.

The most expensive neighbourhoods of Nashville include Brandywine Farms, Green Hills, Stadium Area, Music Row, and Downtown. Here, the prices of rent and real estate will both be quite high. But don’t worry! There are some affordable areas as well where you can plan to live such as Cumberland Gardens, Hermitage Hills, and Buena Vista.

Cost of Living

It’s a great time to move to Nashville. Why you may wonder. Well, because the job market is as healthy as ever. Plus, there is a low unemployment rate in the city. This is what attracts young professionals to move to the music city. However, you shouldn’t just consider job prospects and housing costs. You should also take into account the other factors such as entertainment, healthcare, food, and transportation and their costs. Let’s take a look at each of them.

#1. Entertainment

Dining out in Nashville is not as affordable as some might think considering the cost of food is low. But there are definitely some affordable places in the city that you can try out. Apart from eating out, there is a lot to do in Nashville within your budget. For instance, you can attend the CMA music festival or can go to different live stand-up comedy gigs. If you plan to have internet service here which by the way costs much like any other ISP such as Cox internet deals, you won’t have a problem finding many more great things to do here.

#2. Healthcare

You will be excited to know that in Nashville, the overall cost of healthcare is much less as compared to the other cities of the United States. If you are residing in the city then you will be paying 25% or less for healthcare than the national average.

#3. Food

Similar to healthcare, food in Nashville is also cheaper. It is approximately 3% cheaper than the national average. And cheaper doesn’t mean you won’t find great food!

#4. Transportation

Although the food and healthcare system of Nashville is unmatched, the same cannot be said about transportation. The city doesn’t have an impressive transportation system. There are services like Lyft and Uber in the city.

Conclusion

Nashville is a beautiful city. And to live here is a dream of anyone who is into good food and of course, country music. However, this city is a bit expensive. But how costly it will be for you to live here depends on your individual cost of living. So, if you are planning to move here, you should do your proper research and see if it is financially feasible for you and your family.
