The history of the world of the “World of Warcraft” has been revolving for more than 20 years around the eponymous soul of Titan sleeping in the heart of the world of Azeroth. And so, at BlizzCon 2023, we were informed that they were going to end this saga. Of course, this will not happen in one addition – it will take as many as three, nevertheless, this is good news.
The fact is that Warcraft has long needed something new. With the latest patches, we plunged headlong into the cosmology of the universe, visited different planets and worlds, fought with the gods, titans, and loa, and defeated them. They visited the afterlife, the world of elementals and demons. All this has distanced us so much from the good old Azeroth that the game seems to have lost its coziness and soul. When a player uses World of Warcraft Gold with its undeniable benefits, fights a titan, defeats him, and then goes on a quest to collect spare parts for a goblin, to put it mildly, violates the harmony of the narrative.
And now, the story will be completed, which means that the Warcraft universe can finally be rebooted. Whether it is Warcraft 2.0 or a global reworking of an existing one, there is no better time to do it. The game is very outdated because, in fact, there are not so many global differences between the latest patches from the original version, which was released back in 2004. Yes, the graphics, models, and all that have improved, but the engine remains the same, and its capabilities are very limited. It seems that the best option would be to leave the support of the old servers, for fans of the old school, while launching a new game. This is what WoW fans have been waiting for for years! But let’s return directly to the announcement.
Blizzard Entertainment, after buying them from Microsoft, tried to surprise us at the new BlizzCon. Did it work out? There are very weak announcements of other projects, except perhaps for the new DLC for Diablo 4. If the studio had limited itself to this, it would have been a failure, but World of Warcraft leveled the situation a little.
A trio of upcoming World of Warcraft expansions called the “Soul of the World Saga” were revealed by Chris Metzen at the BlizzCon 2023 opening ceremony. The planet’s oldest secrets defeated adversaries, and even beings previously only known from tales and legends await the heroes of Azeroth. In the words of the creators, the DLC trilogy will wrap up many loose ends in the World of Warcraft universe and represent the culmination of many years of exploration. The project’s founders, however, aim to expand the universe rather than put it to rest.
Soul of the World Saga. What is it about?
The first chapter of the saga is called: “The war within“. In it, you will descend into the depths of Azeroth, where the wounded soul of the sleeping titan itself calls us. The next chapter is called: “Midnight” and will be associated with the confrontation with the “Abyss” – one of the cosmic forces that has long wanted to subjugate the soul of Azeroth to its will. This is evidenced by the gameplay video, which refers not only to the upcoming events but also to the tie for the next addition. Well, the third part: “The Last Titan” will be dedicated to Azeroth and end its story. Thus, the long-term saga will end and the studio will be able to move on and finally completely restart our beloved world.
Blizzards also showed very beautiful cinematics with Thrall and a much more mature and slightly insane Anduin. The video is interesting, although another story about new, unthinkable threats has already become boring, nevertheless, it is good in the concept of the end of the entire saga about the soul of Azeroth.
What is about pre-order?
The game is available for pre-order as soon as it was announced. The add–on is available in three versions – “Base Edition” (€50), “Heroic Edition” (€70), and “Epic Edition”(€90) with various awards. According to the game’s director, this is the first time in Warcraft history that early access may be purchased. Jon Hazzikostas also mentioned the industrial tendency. To prevent providing players who start the game sooner a competitive edge, he added, early access would be carefully managed. Specifically, he stated that the majority of chances to enhance the final product will be lost in the early access phase.
There were limited activities available to players during Dragon Flight’s North American debut on Monday, November 6th, until the weekly restart on Tuesday, November 14th. According to Hazzikostas, early access would remain the same but offer players a little extra time to level up to the maximum before having to restart. The greatest goods from rare spawn animals, from the Mythic Zero and Mythic Plus dungeons, monthly profession rollouts, and profession specialization points, he claims, will not be accessible until the reset.
As a result, let’s hope that the developers and screenwriters will be able to adequately complete such a long and global plot, and then show something new.
